THE Wenvoe Petanque Club has hosted two of this year's nationals finals.

Organised by the Welsh Petanque Association, the finals provide an excellent arena for players to prove their ability in a competitive but friendly environment and, after winning the over 55 triples event at Wenvoe, along with Barbara Vaughan (Caerleon RFC) and Phil Bradshaw (Monkstone Inn), Caerleon's Kon Tomczyk, has enjoyed a string of successes. Winning the national shooting championship at Caerleon, he and clubmate Richard Harris lifted the Welsh doubles title at Brecon. Kon, Barbara, national singles champion Jake Caston (Wheatsheaf) and Peter Beresford, represented Wales at the European Veterans Championships in Lulelå, Sweden.

Wenvoe also hosted the men's national triples competition on Sunday, with the winners being Monkstone's Peter Westall, Phil Bradshaw and Glyn Attley.

Winners of the ladies' national triples - Julie Bailey and Gay Evans (Monkstone Inn) and Gemma Foster (Wheatsheaf) - took up an invite to represent Wales at a European event in Luxembourg, and will be playing at the European ladies' championships in Mersin, Turkey, in September.
