A YOUNG basketball player from will be sporting the Barry and District News name on his warm-up shirts at this year's under-18s European Championships, where he will be playing for Wales.

Connor Hetherton plays for the Barry based Vale Basketball Academy who recently became Welsh league and cup champions as well as winners of the English National League Conference.

This means that the Vale Basketball under-18s will be playing in the English Premier League next season, competing against the best teams in the UK.

Connor, who was granted sponsorship by the Barry and District News last year will be playing for Wales at the under-18s European Championships in Andorra from July 18 to July 20.

"I am very grateful for the sponsorship," he said. "And as a part of the sponsorship, the name was printed onto the back of my warm up t-shirts which I will wear before every match during the under-18 European championships Division C games.

"The sponsorship money is used to help me pay towards the tournament and travel. Again a massive thank you for the sponsorship."

Earlier this year in April Connor and two other Vale Basketball players, Nico-Pele Wilson and Joshua Thomas, competed in and won the Welsh 3v3 competition for the second year running.
