MORE than 200 pupils enjoyed a range of events, including sprints, long jump and a series of throwing events, at this year's Vale Schools' Paragames.

Events at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium were organised so that pupils of every ability could enjoy a competitive setting, and schools taking part were Ashgrove and Ysgol Erw’r Delyn, Penarth, Ysgol Maes Dyfan and St Helen's, Barry, and St Nicholas Primary.

The day was organised by teachers from Ashgrove, Erw’r Delyn and Maes Dyfan and supported by Simon Jones, Disability Sport Wales development officer for the Vale.

Fifteen pupils from St Cyres School, Penarth, volunteered to help with the running of events and supporting the athletes, and every pupil received a goody bag from the Welsh Rugby Union who provided inclusive activities for the athletes. The Vale play department provided face painting and glitter tattoos.

Supporting the event, Vale cabinet member for sports development Cllr Gwyn John and Disability Sport Wales performance athlete Ashleigh Hellyer presented winning pupils with medals.

Simon Jones said: “This is the second and highly successful Paragames. It is brilliant to see that every pupil is catered for and has the opportunity to take part in competitive sport. I would like to thank the teachers for organising such a fantastic event. A lot of hard work went into the day and the success was mirrored by the pupils' reaction.”
