BARRY ATHLETIC v BARRY ROMILLY

Barry Romilly bowlers travelled the short distance to Barry Island to play Barry Athletic in the Munro Cup and, on a green in superb condition, took an early advantage which they never relinquished.

Leading by five shots after five ends, the Romilly players enjoyed the ideal conditions to progress to 46-23 by the 10th end and eventually triumph 69-51 to take 12 out of 14 points.

The Romilly rinks of Mel Newman, Fred Phillips and Mike Doyle were all successful, while Clive Collins' rink lost to Dave Snelling.

Skip scores (Romilly names first): M Newman 18, B Whitlock 13; M Doyle 19, P Webley 11; F Phillips 23, A Mintern 8; C Collins 9, D Snelling 19. Athletic 51, Romilly 69.

GELLI PARK v BARRY ROMILLY

After a good start to their Municipal League 1 season, Romilly were away to Gelli Park in the Rhondda who, in previous seasons, have always proved difficult to beat.

But, with confidence high, the ‘Rom’ responded to an early five-shot deficit to take a two-shot lead into the second half. With the weather remaining good, Romilly produced some excellent bowls and, by the 15th end, led by 16 shots with three rinks

ahead. Maintaining their form for a superb victory, Romilly took 12 out of 14 points.

Romilly (skip scores): B Foscolo 20-23; G Cogbill 18-13; J Wright 22-13; M Newman 22-17, Gelli 66, Romilly 82.

BARRY ROMILLY A v YNYSCYNON

The poor start to the Municipal League 3 season for Barry Romilly A - mainly due to players becoming unavailable - continued with a 45-shot defeat against a strong Rhondda side.

With Ynyscynon moving into a clear 17-shot lead by halfway, there was no respite for Romilly players as the visitors won on all rinks to stroll to victory.

Romilly (skip scores): D Bannister 15-19; B Gough 14-21; B Cheal 6-29; A Woolcock 18-29. Romilly 53, Ynyscynon 98.
