A THIRD consecutive victory has taken St Andrew's Major Golf Club into the quarter-final of the South Wales Senior Classic.

The six-man team defeated Woodlake Park 3-0 at home last Thursday.

Open to golfers aged 55 and over, the competition attracted 64 teams from across South Wales and each tie comprises three matches played in a pairs format.

The St Andrew's team was Mike Cockfield (captain), Brian Haines, Derek Sandrey, Harry Emery, Steve Grainger and Bob Crump and club president Roger Parsons said: “The lads did us proud.”

The club’s senior championship on June 14 and 15 - in which 27 players competed - was won by Alan Bannister, with Brian Close and Mike Cockfield second and third respectively. The nett score placings, which takes handicaps into account, saw Karen Bryan in first place followed by Nigel Cockram and Derek Sandrey.
