BARRY Romilly games for Saturday, May 24, were cancelled due to the weather and the only game played last week was a Munro Cup Match.
Barry Romilly Bowls club continued their success in the Munro Cup last Wednesday, May 21, when entertaining local rivals Rhoose at Romilly Park and this was
a quick return fixture having beaten Rhoose the previous Saturday in The Carruthers Shield also at home.
The game to the 5th end was close the rinks of Graham Cogbill and fred Phillips holding a five and eight shot lead respectively enabling ‘The Rom’ an
eight shot advantage overall. At the 10th end Rhoose had staged a recovery and held a six shot lead with Cogbill’s rink the only Romilly rink still ahead
13-5 against the Rhoose rink skipped by Ron Ball. By the fifteenth end the role had reversed with Romilly storming ahead by fifteen shots, with the
rink of Cogbill now 21–7 and Phillips’s rink picking up eleven shots without reply between ends eleven and fifteen lead by ten shots. Also the Romilly
rink skipped by Phil Gershenson who had been struggling at halfway scored 15 shots without reply from 10th end to the 18th end to win by 19 shots,
only the rink of Mike Doyle suffered defeat despite many excellent bowls not achieving the result they deserved. Romilly won comfortably overall
winning on three rinks to one down and by 23 shots.
