IN line with other club and sports venues across the UK, Barry Tennis Club has hosted free activities for youngsters and adults.

As part of the first Great British Tennis Weekend of 2014, co-ordinated by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), clubs and coaches were encouraged to deliver a variety of opportunities with the common aim of getting more people on court and enjoying the sport of tennis.

The Barry club offered pre-bookable free use of courts (via clubhouse.lta.org.uk/opendays) as well as free parent and child tennis games sessions, free mini and junior matchplay and games, a Mexican-themed social evening (accompanied by Pimms, of course), and an open forum where parents had the opportunity to find out more about the club and to voice their own ideas to the head coach and club development officer.

With the French Open starting next week, and Wimbledon just over a month away, the club is building up its activities to coincide with the annual peak in interest in tennis, with additional on court and off court opportunities being added to the club's portfolio on a regular basis.

There are also further Great British Tennis Weekend activities planned at the Barry club for the weekends of June 21 and 28 and July 19 so watch the local press, and the club's Facebook and Twitter pages for regular updates.
