TYNEWYDD 2

CADOXTON BARRY 3

WITH the first team having completed its fixtures, Cadoxton Barry looked to its two Vale Soccer League teams for a positive end to their seasons. And a win and a draw just about served the requirements.

In this First Division clash, Tynny looked to be the more enterprising during the opening stages. And, on the quarter hour, a free kick took a ride on the near gale force wind before being popped home from close range.

Despite having the howling wind in their faces, CB's limited attacks looked dangerous. And a bit of magical footwork from Dawson saw him get the ball over to Rhydian Hopkins who winged it home. And again it was Dawson's trickery that set up Doyle whose ferocious shot brought a fine diving fingertip save. Then, just before half time, after a Rhydian Hopkins run, brother Rhys' effort was only inches over.

With the wind behind them, the second half started promisingly for CB when Searle dummied before sending in a cross-cum-shot from way out. The ball floated on the wind before falling into the back of the Tynny net.

But only five minutes later Tynny were back on level terms and, for a while, continued to cope remarkably well with the wind.

But it didn't last and, by the 80th minute when Eveleigh (D) was brought into the fray on the opposite side to his son - bringing the family interest on the pitch to two sets of brothers and a father and son - Tynny legs were slowing and conceding a number of free kicks. One of them was close to 40 yards out on the left. And, with the wind at his back, Searle fancied his chances and watched as his sweetly struck kick dropped in just under the bar for a goal worthy of winning any game. And it brought the combined distance of the three CB goals to comfortably over 100 yards.

CB almost made it four in the dying seconds when a corner found Wayne Hopkins whose close range shot was scooped away from dead on the line.

Meanwhile, in Division Two, Cadoxton Barry Thirds fought out a 2-2 draw with Wheelz thanks to goals from Fiddler (E) and Wells who converted a penalty.

On Saturday CB hold their annual FA Cup Final event at Cadoxton Conservative Club. All invited to attend from 2pm.
