FREE coaching sessions at Barry Tennis Club are serving up fun for all the family.
Saturday saw the launch of the exciting new initiative where parents and children get on court together. From 10.0-10.45am, parents and their younger children (ages three to seven years) can enjoy some fun games to help youngsters develop their agility, balance and co-ordination skills, which can be applied to all aspects of physical development, but with a specific focus on tennis.
Parents are fully engaged in the session (so dress appropriately and expect to use some of your own energy), and children love the on-court interaction where mums and dads have to do the same as them. An additional benefit is that parents pick up some ideas on activity games appropriate to their child's stage of development that they can practice at home, and the parental role-model will have long-lasting effects on the child's willingness to engage in sporting activities.
In the later session, 10.45-11.30am, older children and their parents take to the courts for age-appropriate games and skills development, as well as mini tennis matchplay, in which the children compete against the grown-ups!
These sessions are running again for the next two weeks (May 10 and 17) and are completely free of charge to everyone.
