BARRY Beavers Disabled Swimming Club’s most recent swimming gala, saw Vale MP Alun Cairns cheering from the side.
The event, at Barry leisure centre, saw Barry and clubs throughout South Wales competed with other swimmers from as far afield as Carmarthenshire, as well as local rivals from Rhondda.
The MP helped present awards.
Barry Beavers offer swimming for people with special needs, young and old alike.
Alun said: “This was one of the most enjoyable events that I have attended for some time.
“It was heart-warming to see people of all ages competing brilliantly against their counterparts in spite of a range of disabilities both physical and mental.
“All of the athletes shared the same desire to win and the event was held in a competitive but friendly spirit.
“I was pleased to see Barry Beavers doing so well against teams from as far afield as Carmarthenshire and I pay tribute to the organisers and everyone who took part on the day.”
