THE continuing progress of two local teenagers is further enhancing Barry's reputation for producing promising snooker players.

Nineteen-year-old Sam Thomas, the current Welsh No 1 at U21 level, has just returned from Romania where he represented his country in the European U21 Championships, while Ryan Rowlands, aged 17, completed back to back victories at the weekend in the Welsh U19 category.

Sam has also has been selected to represent Wales in Dubai next month in the World U21 Championships and, in a good few weeks for the youngster, he secured a well deserved grant from Talent Cymru to help with his career development.

Ryan will also represent Wales at the Home Internationals in Leeds during the summer.

Both players are coached by newly-appointed Welsh national coach Anthony Davies, of Barry, who is looking for some junior players to take part in a ten-week free coaching session set up and paid for by the Paul Hunter Foundation. Anyone aged nine to16 is welcome to take part for two hours per week, totally free of charge.

"Hopefully, there might be a budding Ronnie O'Sullivan out there," said Anthony.
