APPROACHING the end of an excellent season, a member of the Colcot Sports Amateur Boxing Club has just missed out on a spot at April's World Championships in Bulgaria.
Taking part in the Welsh youth B 64kg class, Maredudd Thomas was successful in three bouts to win the title and then won a box-off with another Welsh champion to reach the British finals in Scotland. Against a much more experienced English opponent, the Barry youngster boxed well and emerged with the silver medal to be pipped to a world spot.
In a busy spell, Maredudd also represented Wales in an international against Holland and won two bouts against the Dutch champion.
All those connected with the Colcot Sports commend Maredudd for his hard work and dedication and would also like to thank Dave Miller, landlord of the King William pub, for his kind sponsorship of the club.
Any individuals or businesses wishing to support the club can contact head coach Wayne Gurd on 07525 494070.
