DINAS Powys Lawn Tennis Club is hosting an open day on Saturday, March 15, from 9am-1.30pm for all ages and abilities.

The first Monday of March saw World Tennis Day, an initiative set up in 2013 by the International Tennis Federation. Many top tennis players and legends, including Andy Murray and Andre Agassi, supported the day.

The club’s head coach, Rob Walbyoff, explained that “the intention of this worldwide initiative is to encourage more young people to participate in tennis” but added that “Dinas Powys LTC intends to take this further by encouraging people of all ages and abilities to come along to an Open Day, including those who have never played before and want to learn”.

The club has members of mixed ages and abilities and the open day on Saturday, March 15, is an opportunity for members and non-members to come along and join in the fun. Rackets and balls will be supplied on the day, and there will be an hour of fun activities for juniors from 10am, with the opportunity to experience or watch the relatively new, exciting group activity, Cardio Tennis, running between 11.30am-12.15pm.

The open day follows interest in the sport after the publicity of World Tennis Day and the Grand Slam successes of Andy Murray.

Rob added: “Dinas Powys is a very family friendly tennis club that supports participation and the open day is our way of encouraging people to get involved. It doesn’t matter whether they come on their own, want to play with a friend or someone at the club, receive a lesson or just socialise and watch tennis. We look forward to seeing some new faces on the day.”
