HAVING not played since January 11 due to the weather, Tynny's Vale Soccer League side went into this Supporters' Cup quarter-final clash knowing that retaining the trophy was their only chance of lifting silverware this year.

Starting the better of the two teams, Tynny closed down their opponents all over the pitch, with the midfield trio of Lewis Union, Matthew Hesp and Andrew Colburn, in particular, working hardest to control the game. Midway through the first half, despite having the majority of the ball, Tynny failed to make the most of numerous half chances, but took the lead from a free kick move, with Jammo whipping the ball and finding Ross Smith who, on the edge of the box, was allowed time and space to unleash a brilliant half volley.

The second half continued in the same vein, with Tynny having the lion's share of possession and the back four of Pycroft, Clissett, Haincock and Bellamy keeping things tight and goalkeeper Callum Coleman commanding his area well.

Twenty minutes into the half, Tynny doubled their lead when skipper Lewis Union won a 50/50 in the middle of the park and a quick one-two with Hesp allowed the former to thread in Smith, who made no mistake in a one-on-one with the 'keeper.

Against a well-drilled and experienced FC Barry side, Tynny shut the game out well in the last 25 minutes, with Jodie Shepherd replacing Simon Bellamy and slotting seamlessly into the back four. Lloyd Union replaced Mark McCarthy who, with fellow winger Dale Miller, put in a full shift.

Now just one game away from another Jenner Park final, Tynny know it won't be easy, but, if they show the same passion and commitment and willingness to work together as a team for 90 minutes like they did on Saturday, they will give any team a tough game.

Man of the match was Lewis Union for his tireless running and control of the midfield although, on the day, any number of players could have picked up the award, with special mention to Colburn who was dominant in the centre of the pitch.
