2014 has become a landmark year in the history of the Vale of Glamorgan Referees' Society.

For the past two seasons, the society has been sponsored for the first time by local company RIM Motors, Cardiff Business Park, Cardiff Road, Barry. And now, following a feasibility case to the FAW, the society is the first of its kind in Wales to be sanctioned to wear a sponsor's logo on their match day kit.

In line with FIFA guidelines, referees will sport the RIM Motors logo on their shirt sleeves.

With newly-qualified referees looking to join in the new season (the year begins in April to fall in line with the Referees' Association of Wales), the Vale society is going from strength to strength, with an active membership age range of 15 to 65.

With many of the junior referees coming off a referees' course at Ysgol Bro Morgannwg - another course is due to start there in March – the junior divisions in the Vale of Glamorgan League have never had so many junior referees.

Society secretary Terry Allday said: "The feedback and support for these referees from the clubs themselves has been excellent. It’s an area we certainly hope to progress with. These referees are also being regularly selected in both national FAW and county SWFA Youth Cups as well as officiating in Cardiff City Academy matches. There are huge opportunities out there for junior referees."

If anyone would like to take up refereeing they can contact the society for more details - email vogrs@hotmail.co.uk - or via their website www.pitchero.com/clubs/valeofglamorganrefereessociety

Terry added: "Again, from all the members, a huge thank you to Mark Barrett at RIM Motors for his support in local football."
