THE Vale Ladies' and Girls' Football Club are celebrating after one of their under-12 teams was crowned South Wales Girls' League Futsal Cup champions for 2014.

Taking place over a six-week period at indoor facilities across South Wales, the cup involved 26 teams competing in regional divisions, with winners and runners-up in each area progressing to the finals at the House of Sport in Cardiff.

The Vale Athletic team comfortably won their regional group, winning 15 and drawing one of their 16 fixtures and, in the finals, the girls put in a great performance beating Troedyrhiw, Porthcawl, Valleys Pontypridd and Villa Dino Christchurch before playing out a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City Ladies to claim the title.

The girls also created a bit of history as the first cup winners for the club in just their second season and coach Luke Williams is hoping for more success for the club over the coming years. He said: “This is a great achievement and, hopefully, just the start for our club as we develop over the next five years. We have put excellent foundations in place within the grassroots section of our club with around 60 girls, between the ages of seven and 12, playing.”

The club trains on a weekly basis in the Barry area and welcome new players on a regular basis. If you would like to get involved in girls' football, email valegirlsfc@gmail.com or visit the club website - www.valegirlsfc.co.uk
