Barry Town United's 8-0 win over Treowen Stars

After Saturday's home game had been postponed, Barry were raring to go and created three early chances, before captain James Saddler smashed home the opener in the 12th minute.

The Town then doubled their advantage, when winger Michael Hartley rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home with 16 minutes elapsed.

In the 23rd minute, a great effort from defender Bobby Briers came back off the Treowen crossbar, before midfielder Nickie Jones struck the post from the very next attack.

Hartley however would not be denied; grabbing his second and Barry's third in the 26th minute with a low curling effort from the edge of the penalty area.

The former Cardiff City man would make another impact in the 33rd minute, with his right-footed cross striking a Treowen defender to force an unfortunate own goal.

Jones then emerged to hammer home Barry's fifth, with 39 minutes on the clock.

Despite a deluge of rain doing its worst to the Jenner Park pitch, Barry's first half football was first rate, with adventurous full-back Paul Morgan among a host of players impressing the crowd.

The second half then saw manager Gavin Chesterfield make three substitutions, with Dale Howarth, Scott Jones and Geraint Frowen replacing Nickie Jones, Saddler and Hartley respectively.

Hungry Howarth made sure his name was not absent from the scoresheet, breaking forward in the 64th minute and finishing well to make it six.

Ten minutes later, striker Jordan Cotterill netted perhaps the goal of the game, his powerful strike taking Barry's tally to a magnificent seven.

It was left to fellow forward Ryan Jenkins to finish proceedings with the eighth and final goal in the 90th minute.

Barry now lead the table by two points, having now played an equal number of games as second-placed Llanwern.

Tuesday's win was the Town's 18th league match of the season, with 18 now to play; starting away at Cwmaman Institute on Saturday (2pm kick-off).
