THERE were mixed fortunes for two Rhoose Amateur Boxing Club youngsters when they opened their Welsh championship campaigns at the Royal British Legion Club in Cardiff.
First into action was 12-year-old Max Taylor (36 kilos) who faced Thomas Griffiths (ANA ). After winning the first round well, Max took his foot off the pedal in the next couple of rounds and, as result, lost a close points decision.
There was a better outcome for 17-year-old Lewis Mills (60 kilos) who opened at a fast pace against Jake Bowen (Llanharan). After forcing his opponent to take a standing count, Lewis did not press home his advantage although doing enough to take all three rounds for a clear points win.
Three more Rhoose boxers will be in championship action at the same venue today (Thursday).
