CADOXTON BARRY 1

VALE Soccer League side Tynny launched their defence of the Supporters' Cup with a convincing win.

With Tynny not having played for more than a month, it was good to see the excesses of the Christmas period hadn't taken their toll as they started on the front foot. After missing several chances in the opening 20 minutes- a recurring theme this season - Ross Smith finally converted a much more difficult chance than he'd missed when he fired a rocket in from all of 25 yards. A few more missed open goals later and the old adage - "if you don't take your chances, you'll pay for it" - came to pass as a lapse at the back allowed Caddy back into the game just before the break.

Tynny started the second half the better and it didn't take long before they regained the lead after a neat knock-down from Jodie Shepherd allowed Smith to turn in his second. Not long after Smith completed his hat-trick to seemingly put the tie to bed, but Tynny were grateful to goalkeeper Callum Coleman for a crucial one-on-one save.

With some committed challenges from the whole of the back four and midfield, Tynny eventually clinched the tie when Smith, unmarked on the edge of the box, finished a lovely move by hammering in his fourth goal.

Tynny moved onto the next round knowing that there will be hard challenges ahead if they wish to repeat their cup success of last season.

Man of the match was split between Smith and Mark McCarthy who did a great job filling in at right back and showing the great spirit amongst the lads that the team comes first.
