BARRY RFC 2nd XV 43pts

OLD PENARTHIANS 2nd XV 5

IN THEIR first game of the calendar year, Barry Rugby Club Seconds hosted Old Penarthians in the second round of the Cardiff and Vale District Cup.

Without the services of manager Ken Chow, who was on 3rd XV duty, coach Rhidian Scott gave a full debut to John Miles, whilst also recalling captain Nick Rolfe in the second row. Andy Corne made his return from a shoulder injury to make the replacement bench.

So often it is Barry who are short of a long list of players, but this time the role was reversed. Old Penarthians arrived with just 10 players and, therefore, in order for the game to go ahead, the Barry bench ran out for the visitors.

It was never going to be a true test for the hosts as they ran out easy winners, with the backs running riot. Brad White continued his try-scoring form by running in a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Dave Williams, himself returning from injury, who managed a brace. Adam Lee and Andrew Buckland also crossed for the home side in what turned out to be a one-sided affair.

Lee also added eight points with his boot to ease Barry into the next round of the competition.

Team: Lee; Poole, Buckland, D Williams, White; Flynn, J Williams; Thomas, Vidal, Lundy; Rolfe (c), Miles; Jones, Goodfellow, Oaten. Replacements: Hosking, Corne, Hewitson and Adams. Man-of-the-match: White.
