BOTH the Barry Town United senior and under-19 sides found creative ways to maintain fitness at the weekend after the postponement of their respective league games.

After Saturday's Macwhirter Welsh League match at Jenner Park fell victim to a late postponement, Barry boss Gavin Chesterfield put his players through their paces with an impromptu cardio session at the stadium.

Players, including goalkeeper Dan Bradley, defender Lewis Cosslett, winger Dale Howarth and forward Ryan Jenkins, were among those to tackle the steps of the famous grandstand, completing a series of laps minutes after their fixture against Bridgend Street was called off.

Despite considerable rainfall in the preceding week, the Jenner Park pitch had, originally, following a 10.15am assessment, been declared playable. However, following a significant downpour around 1pm, the official abandoned any attempts to start the match, with both sides already warming up and spectators filtering into the ground.

The result is that Barry and Bridgend Street will have to squeeze in the rearranged fixture later in the season.

Meanwhile, the Barry U19 squad took to the beaches of Barry Island for an unorthodox training session of their own. Coaches Neil and Kevin Owens oversaw a number of activities on the beach as the U19s worked hard to start 2014 the right way.

This Saturday Barry's first team are scheduled to travel to Treowen Stars in the league (2pm). However, many expect the match to be another victim of the weather and supporters are encouraged to check the BarryTownUnited.com website and associated Twitter and Facebook feeds for the latest information before travelling.
