SULLY SPORTS 5

MARGAM 3

BOTH South Wales Senior Soccer League sides produced some excellent football in heavy conditions at Swanbridge on Saturday, with Sully Sports moving through to the Bruty Cup semi-finals.

The good drainage at the Sully ground, which was holding water in places, brought a late 'green light' for the match, but, typically, more showery rain arrived soon after kick-off.

Showing a host of changes from their previous league encounter, Sports were quickly into their stride and took a 15th minute lead when a good move ended with Conner McInery letting fly.

Although Margam hardly had a touch of the ball in the first 20 minutes, they equalised when a long ball and defensive mistake led to a virtually open goal.

Although Sports held the upper hand, Margam were inspired by their equaliser and continued to match the home side in the heavy conditions.

With the weather improving for the second half, Sports regained the lead when Garon Davies netted following a good cross. However, determined Margam responded once again for a second equaliser.

As the teams continued to trade 'punches,' a great move down the line saw Luke Hanlon beat the 'keeper at the near post for Sully's third. But, when a home defender handled in the penalty area, it was a Margam penalty and 3-3.

Maintaining their attacking intent, Sports took the lead for a fourth time when Gareth Hemmens fired home a penalty and struck their decisive fifth when, following a corner, substitute Gavin Beddard, returning from injury, forced the ball home.

With the pitch starting to cut up badly, Sports saw the game out for a decent win in tiring conditions.
