BOXING star Lee Selby takes on Rendall Munroe for the vacant European featherweight title on February 1 and he wants to be the face of Welsh boxing in 2014, writes Andrew Penman.

The Barry boxer, who trains with Tony Borg at St Joe's in Newport, tops Matchroom Sport’s ‘Reloaded’ card at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena, live on Sky Sports.

Selby will also defend his British title but he has set his sights on moving towards a world title shot within the next 12 months.

“If I win the European belt I want to defend it a couple of times and then look to get a final eliminator for the world title,” said the 26-year-old. “I want to be the face of Welsh boxing.

“I’m expecting the best Rendall Munroe,” he added. “He’s going to come and try to wear me down but I’m super fit. I always train hard. I live in the gym.

“When he tries to up the pace I’m going to up it again, outbox him and hopefully catch up with him again and get him out of there.”

The all-Gwent lightweight clash between Newbridge star Gavin Rees and St Joes ace Gary Buckland is the chief support on a packed bill.

Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua fights in the fourth time as a professional on the bill, with Aberdare’s Dorian Darch providing a tough test for the exciting heavyweight.

Erick Ochieng takes on Dale Evans and Welsh middleweight Kerry Hope, Liverpool’s Thomas Stalker, Prizefighter light-welterweight champion Chris Jenkins, Jason Cook and Tony Pace are all also in action.
