EVERY year the Vale of Glamorgan Referees Society (VoGRS) invites the mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan to become its patron for the year.
Councillor Margaret Wilkinson was pleased to accept this honour and recently invited some of its members to the town hall.
The VoGRS was founded in 1946 as the Barry Referees Society and in 2002 changed its name to encompass the whole of the Vale of Glamorgan.
It currently has 26 members with an age range of 15 to 65 years.
The VoGRS is affiliated to the Referees Association of Wales and it meets monthly between August and May each season.
The society continually promotes its FAIR PLAY initiative - which encourages all participants to play within a sporting manner.
Terry Allday, secretary to the society, said: "We would like to thank Cllr Wilkinson for agreeing to be our patron for the year. Also, the VoGRS are grateful to RIM Motors of Barry for being our sponsors."
