CWM WELFARE 1

SULLY SPORTS 2

RETURNING to South Wales Senior Soccer League action after recent cup disappointments, Sully Sports travelled to old rivals Cwm Welfare for Saturday's First Division clash.

On a soft pitch and playing down the slope and with a stiff wind at their backs, Sully took the game to second-placed Cwm and the pace of forwards Alex Long and Lawler caused plenty of trouble. Indeed, both forwards went close to opening the scoring in the early minutes.

The Sully defence looked solid and, with the full backs overlapping to create plenty of pressure, Sports continued to have some good chances before taking a 25th minute lead. Following an incisive move, Connor McInery unleashed a brilliant 25-yard shot which the goalkeeper tipped on to the post, but the power saw the ball hit the back of the net.

Sully's second came soon after when Long again struck the woodwork from a narrow angle and Garon Davies was the first to react to ram home the rebound.

Sports remained in control in the second half and, creating a host of chances, should have put the game out of Cwm's reach.

However, they were unable to increase their lead because of good goalkeeping and some lucky moments for the home side who pulled a goal back close to the end and made it a tricky last couple of minutes for the visitors.

With Ed Jones, Liam Beddard and captain Dan James showing solidity in defence, this was a very good footballing display by Sully who, with games in hand on all their rivals, will be looking to make further league progress this Saturday when Lewistown are the visitors; players should meet at the ground at 12.30pm prompt.
