Points win despite unconvincing display

RECOVERING from a shaky opening round, Welsh novice champion (56 kilos) Jay Munn did just enough to take a split points decision in his latest contest.

Up against Luke Cole (Maesteg ABC) at a show at the RAFA Club, Ely, the 14-year-old Rhoose Amateur Boxing Club boy stepped up the pace in the second round in the face of some quick counter punching and held on for victory.

However, the display did not please Jay's coaches, one of whom said: "Winning a contest is great, but how you win is also very important and, on this occasion, Jay's display wasn't up to his usual high standards. However, we are sure he will have learned a lot and will respond in his next contest."
