VALE GIRLS U16s 2

TROEDYRHIW 7

AGAINST a Troedyrhiw side containing several Welsh internationals, the Vale Girls' U16 soccer side were under the cosh from the start and conceded a goal after just 90 seconds.

With the visitors showing their attacking potential from the outset, Vale goalkeeper Shanice Donovan had no chance when a superb through ball was hammered home to mark the start of a 10-minute footballing lesson which culminated in another well worked goal for the Rhiw.

Vale responded immediately and, within two minutes, a lovely through ball from Ellie Wenger allowed Jess Thompson to reduce the arrears with a great shot.

Unable to convert a series of further chances, Vale were hit by a four-goal salvo from the visitors, including an own goal, before half-time.

The Vale looked more composed after the break and, within a few minutes, a lovely pass from Emily Hill allowed Thompson to use her blistering pace and fire home a second goal. With the Vale now battling and showing more cohesion in defence, Kelsey Murray, Niamh Teague and Shanaz Masani, who played on bravely despite an injury, gave Rhiw plenty of problems. Vale strikers Grace Samuel and Ellie Wenger both had opportunities, but were thwarted by some excellent saves, while Chloe Jones was particularly industrious in midfield. Unfortunately, the Vale conceded again when they were caught on the break and a 40-yard shot flew into the top corner.

Thompson produced her best game for the Vale with a non-stop display and, once again, Donovan was excellent in her role as stand-in goalkeeper.

Troedyrhiw were deserved winners, but Vale can be heartened by their second-half efforts which should provide plenty of confidence for the Welsh Cup game against Cardiff City.
