CADOXTON BARRY FC 1

MARGAM YC 0

WEARING their new kit - kindly sponsored by petrochemical company LMEUK - for the first time, Cadoxton Barry were comfortably the better side in Saturday's South Wales Senior Soccer League clash.

However, determined and resolute defence ensured the visitors were in with a shout for the whole 90 minutes.

Good movement saw Hopkins bring the best out of the Margam 'keeper and the same player enjoyed a 30-yard run before finding Thompson. In turn, he found Adams who finished purposefully from 12 yards. This was just 12 minutes in and Christopherato almost doubled the lead when a Baker back heel allowed him to shoot - smiting the bar from middle distance.

But a further 10 minutes on, Margam applied a little pressure as a miss hit clearance fell to their striker who forced Davie into a quality save.

An unusual passing move involving only headers and dinks saw Thompson fire in a shot narrowly wide. Then it was Chrispopherato again as he made contact with a loose ball, but the 'keeper got well behind his powerful shot.

Baldock left the field with a pulled hamstring, with Ross Matthews taking his place. And, just before half time, a passing move involving Thompson, Adams and Baker saw the latter shoot into the grateful arms of the 'keeper.

Margam broke through the CB rearguard at the start of the second half and only a perfectly timed tackle by last man Blackmore saved the day . Then, only moments later, Davie pulled off another quality save as he intelligently narrowed the angle as a Margam striker looked favourite to score.

At the other end, good work from Sam Williams set Thompson up and his off target effort was nearly deflected in by a defender.

Weekley and Dawson came on to see the game out for the last few minutes, with Adams and Hopkins giving way.

Although CB were doing the pressing, there were a couple of scary moments as two Margam shots rolled invitingly across the face of the goal, with no forward available for the tap in.

But the final opportunity fell to CB as Baker doggedly drove his way forward to fire in a shot which rebounded out to Thompson whose return shot wasn't quite good enough.

Next Saturday Cadoxton Barry visit title favourites AFC Whitchurch so they will need to be at their very best if they are to get any reward.
