ON THE day they were being presented with last summer's WCCC and Full Toss League winner's trophy and pennant, the Sully Cricket Club - formerly Spartans - heard they had been accepted to play in the national Village Cup competition for the first time.

Spartans co-founder and secretary Gavin Beddard said to play in the 2014 Davidstow Village Cup would be a another great step forward in the progress of the club.

There was more caution from chairman Mark Canning, who said that the preliminary round of the cup was on Sunday, April 13, and Sully Community Council had still not confirmed it would allow the club to play (if drawn at home) on that date. He added that a formal written request had been delivered to the council asking for a decision at its monthly meeting on December 3.

Club president Yanni, who is currently abroad, said: "I'm sure the council will do the right thing and allow the Spartans to play at home in this prestigious cup event."
