LONG-STANDING members and newcomers were honoured when the Cadoxton Bowling Club held its annual presentation evening in the Victoria Park clubhouse.

New member Karl Cowling beat Jim Stacey in the novices final, while old hand Len Davies beat Tony Bishop in the championship final.

Other finals results were:

Handicap, David Evans bt Kelvin Chedgzoy; Jack Hartman competition, Derek Brook bt Howard Hellyar; pairs, David Tuck and Don Kuhnell bt Karl Cowling and Jim Davies; two bowl, Tony Bishop bt David Evans; triples, Dennis Hammond, Glen Solomon and Ivor Robertson bt Jamie Ferguson, David Tuck and Roy Harding.

Trophies were presented by club president Les Cundliffe and last summer's club captain Don Kuhnell.

There were two special awards, with Gil Powell, a visibly impaired bowler and a great supporter of the club's sporting and social activities, being selected by members as personality of the year. Howard Craven was chosen to receive the captain's award for the person who had contributed most to the club's achievements over the past season.

Club secretary David Fanning commented: "We play in a considerable number of different competitions around the Vale and elsewhere in South Wales and, as one of the oldest bowling clubs in Wales, we have a proud and strong history.

"We need players of a strong level of commitment and prowess to maintain that and this season's award winners are no exception.

"We have a purpose-built clubhouse, with licensed bar facilities available to members on match days, and our bowling green in Victoria Park, Cadoxton, is one of the best around due to the sterling efforts of park officer Jon Greatrex and his team."
