THE Welsh Petanque members gathered recently for their presentation evening and to honour all members.

The season has been another great one and the evening saw several members awarded.

Dai Cannan, from Wenvoe PC, was awarded an honorary life membership for his support to the sport and to members, both new and old.

Senior Player of the Year was awarded to Kon Tomczyk, Caerleon PC, and member of WPA Executive, for his significant contribution to the sport, including achieving a high standard of play and personal activities in support of the association both in Wales and abroad.

The WPA was pleased to award the Most Improved Player of the Year Award to Jayne Hayman of Wenvoe PC, who although joined only recently has excelled in her improvement and enthusiasm to play petanque as often as possible, entering competitions and the league.

The Stuart Clarke Cup was awarded to Jake Caston, Roger Griffin and John Barnes; the National Over 55s competition was won by Dai Cannan, Jake Cason and Mike Jacques; the Welsh Doubles shield went to Graham Attfield and Tony Smith; Welsh Mixed Doubles to Jayne Hayman and Mike Jaques. The Welsh Singles was taken by Jake Caston. The Welsh Cup for Clubs was taken this year by The Wheatsheaf PC.

The Welsh Petanque Association was represented in European Championships in 2013 in Rome by Matthew Franks, Phil Bradshaw, Ian Bailey and Jean-Yves Robic; and the World Championships in France by Julie Baily, Gemma Foster, Tansy Mayfield and Gay Evans. Finally, but by no means least, the WPA was represented in the World Championship Shooting competition by Gay Evans and the European Shooting Championship by Ian Bailey.

The WPA Division 1 league winners were Monkstone Inn 1, runners-up were Wheatsheaf A; Division 2 league winners were Monkstone Inn 2 with Wheatsheaf Squirrels being runners-up. The National League Cup winners were Monkstone 1 and the National League Plate winners were Wheatsheaf A.
