Unbeaten Sully entertain league leaders

THE Sully Indoor Bowls Club continued their good start to the Welsh team championship with a 10-shot victory over Taf Ely.
With 36 points out of a possible 44 from their opening two games, Sully should be in confident mood for the visit of league leaders Blaenau Gwent this Saturday, November 2; 2pm start.
In the early stages of Saturday's match with Taf Ely, Sully struggled against a side that had been convincingly beaten on their own rink the previous week.
Martin Clarke’s rink (Dan Jones, Phil Gershenson and Dave Curtis) opened with some excellent bowling to establish a 17-6 lead after 10 ends, but then proceeded to drop 14 shots over the next seven ends to trail 17-20. Fortunately, they recovered their form on the last four ends to take 11 shots and win 28-20.
The rinks skipped by Brian Griffiths and Ken McLeod played well and were never in trouble to record 28-15 and 27-14 successes respectively.
Trailing from the first end, Dave Wright’s rink never recovered, while the rinks of Fred Phillips and Brian Foscolo started confidently and held early leads. But then, after seven ends, both began to struggle and eventually lost by 10 and nine shots respectively.
Fortunately, Sully's three winning rinks gained enough shots to cover the three losing rinks in an eventual 129-119 victory.
Sully rink scores: S McKernan, Joe Coles, D Snelling, D Wright 16-21; M Davies, Jeff Coles, R Richards, F Phillips16-26; G Eastment, C Geen, C Collins, B Foscolo 14-23; D Jones, P Gershenson, D Curtis, M Clarke 28-20; L Peters, J Jones, G Cogbill, B Griffiths 28-15; M Gershenson, C Burton, N Chandler, K McLeod 27-14.
