MERIT AWARD: Wenvoe Castle Golf Club conies section presentation night . . . Dan Williams (left), winner of the Merit Table Trophy, with runner-up Tim Hanson and lady captain Sheila Morrow.
THE presentation of prizes for the popular conies section of the Wenvoe Castle Golf Club concluded one of the most successful seasons in the their history.
Conies captain Ken Howells was naturally delighted with the support shown throughout the summer and, in particular, consistently high level of entries. The excellent weather had played its part and greens staff were praised for the quality of the course.
He also thanked Jason Harris, the club professional, for his support and contribution and highlighted the excellent service by club steward Simon Gatheridge and club chef David Reis and the various staff.
The origins of the Conies' evenings lay in providing organised competitions for players with high handicaps and particularly for new members. Over time, the competitions were extended to lower handicap players enabling them to pass on their golfing skills and experience and, importantly, join in a great social evening. Ken highlighted the quality of golfers now taking part including club champion Pat Regan and county champion Keith Stimpson together with a number of first and second team players.
