BARRY SAINTS 8
THE Barry Saints cruised to an emphatic victory in a game which will, unfortunately, be remembered for the season ending injury to Alun Wyatt.
Saints started brightly and were dominating possession with Joe Matthews causing lots of problems with his pace, but were rocked when an innocuous challenge from Wyatt, who intended thumping the ball up the field, caught the Vans winger. After being moved of the pitch, Wyatt was shown a yellow card and then whisked off to hospital by ambulance with a broken tibia!
Saints then went through the gears and took the lead when Matthews showed his tenacious nature by chasing a lost cause and wriggling through to curl the ball home. With Saints' 'keeper Hillard producing a great save in a one on one situation, his side went further ahead through Matthews' second. The same player then capped a brilliant first-half performance to bag his third with a great finish from the penalty spot.
Coming out for the second half with all guns blazing, Vans grabbed a goal back, but Saints found another gear and David Evans scored after a great run and finish. Evans added his second with another superb finish and then completed his hat-trick from a tight angle.
With the game as good as won, Saints weren't finished and, with a final flourish, Evans netted his fourth from 30 yards and teammate Michael Evans seized on a poor back pass to round the 'keeper.
