Goals galore for Dinas Ladies

IT'S been goals aplenty for Dinas Powys Football Club ladies who have produced a 23-goal bonanza with wins over the Vale (12-1) and Merthyr (11-1).
Despite persistent rain on a gloomy Wednesday evening, Dinas gave an excellent display of attacking football that left the Vale struggling to gain possession and territory. Left winger Brooke Howell opened the scoring after just five minutes with a powerful shot from just outside the box and forward Emily Gillard sstruck twice to give them a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Dinas maintained the pressure, with right back Hannah Beddoe supplying inch-perfect balls to the wing and central midfield. Midfielder Lisa Grindley took advantage to despatch a thunderous shot into the top left hand corner to make it 4-0. Gillard completed her hat-trick and hard-working Charlotte Bloxham ended a frustrating time with two goals. Gillard added a fourth before half-time.
Vale dug deep in the second half and kept Dinas away from the goal until the 63rd minute when Rhian Penikett, substitute for Shazia Zahoor, thumped in her side's ninth. Gillard followed with her fifth and, although Vale responded with a breakaway, Bloxham completed her hat-trick and right wing Rachel Beare got on the scoresheet with another thumping goal.
Buoyed by the commanding victory over Vale, Dinas were energised for their next home match against Merthyr Town.
Unfortunately, Merthyr started the match with 10 players and were reduced to eight in the second half. Understandably, Dinas capitalised on the weakened team and scored 11 goals before the referee ended the game 15 minutes early.
Dinas now lie third in the South Wales Women’s League.
