SPORTSMEN and women from a large variety of sports have returned from a week in Bath where the Special Olympics National Games were held last week. Jeff Savory who was appointed overall manager for the Welsh team was also coach to the boy and men's gymnastics team - and didn't the Penarth boy and men do him and their Penarth team proud. They have returned with a massive cache of medals.
In the boys event, Dafydd Williams, who travels from Cheptsow to the Penarth club, won gold medals on vault, pommel horse and rings and bronze on floor and for his all round scores.
David Melly, who lives in Cardiff, took the silver medals on pommel horse and high bar but triumphed with golds on floor, vault, parallel bars and rings plus gold overall.
Penarth's seniors, all Barry men, certainly came up trumps too. James Savory top scored on vault and took bronze on floor.
Kiaran Parsons had his best ever results with gold awarded for parallel bars, pommels and vault and the silver for the high bar, rings, floor and overall.
Gareth Lloyd won gold on pommel horse and floor, silver on vault and was awarded bronze medals for parallel bars, high bar and rings plus the gold overall.
These young men take great pride in their achievements as do all their club mates - both mainstream and special needs.
