Late turnaround as CB secure the points

MARGAM YC 2
CADOXTON BARRY 4
THE pattern of the first threequarters of this South Wales Senior Soccer League game bore a great resemblance to that of the defeat at Llanrumney a few days earlier. But, thankfully, the final quarter was a lot different.
Despite at least half a dozen unavailabilities, Second Division CB lined up with a useful looking side. Indeed, as on the Tuesday before, they pressed from the outset, a skirmish following a Morgan corner seeing the ball only just cleared off the line. And then the same man saw a shot fizz just wide. Blackmore had a good opportunity following an Oaten corner, but the shot was blasted well over.
Then, as at the University playing fields, the initial zest in the CB game just dried up. And again CB began to depend heavily on the goalkeeping prowess of Mattie Davie who saved up to a half dozen lost causes before CB briefly rallied 10 minutes before the break. But the relief didn't last for long, CB conceding a penalty which Margam converted. And it was only a combination of wayward finishing and Davie's excellent spatial awareness that kept the deficit to just one goal at the break.
CB started the second half still looking just as vulnerable at the back, with Davie making three point blank saves in the space of the first five minutes.
A Walsh cross did find Weekley's head, though he was unable to get any power behind it. Apart from that, there was no hint that there was a complete turnaround brewing. Indeed it didn't start until 20 minutes from the end. But when it came it was decisive.
With no hope of a goal seemingly in sight, it came out of the blue - a through ball finding Adams who converted from close range.
This lifted CB as they seemed to sense their opponents were beginning to tire. And it took only another five minutes for them to go into the lead when, following good work by Dawson, Morgan dodged a couple of challenges before finishing with a quality strike.
It was Dawson again who initiated the third goal only two minutes later, setting Adams up.
Having kept the visitors in sight for so long in order to prepare for this late onslaught, Davie was not going to be kept out of things now CB were in command, and a tremendous low and accurate clearance found Adams who danced around a couple of challenges to make space for Dawson to finish well.
With three points now seeming safe, CB eased up a little to allow the hosts to head home a second goal.
