Penarth and Dinas runners enjoy success in weekend of racing

PENARTH and Dinas Runners enjoyed success in two tough races on the weekend.
On Saturday, August 31, eight Penarth runners took part in the challenging 16 mile Roman Run from Brecon to Merthyr.
The mountainous and rocky course features a climb from 500ft to 1500ft above sea level.
Gary Brown and Debbie Evans had cause to celebrate as they finished as eighth overall and second woman respectively.
Gary, who is training for the Abingdon Marathon in October, finished in 1.49.50.
Debbie Evans, who was also first in her age category, Veteran Ladies 45's, was next up with a PB of 2.08.52.
Chris Herdman, who is training for the Loch Ness Marathon later this month, took an impressive ten minutes off his PB with 2.13.05.
Malcolm Bradley was next with 2.25.09, followed by Rhodri Evans in 2.42.35. Michelle Hoey, Yvonne Williams and Sara El-Khatib all crossed the finish line in 2.58.42.
On Sunday, September 1, Penarth runners also took part in the Caernarfon 10k race in north Wales.
Penarth runners enjoyed success again as Lisa Cleary was crowned second lady overall and first in her age category, Veteran Ladies 45's, and Yvonne Williams was crowned second in her age category, Veteran Ladies 55's.
The race, which forms part of the North Wales 10km Championships and the Welsh and Welsh Inter Regional 10km Championships, runs along the Menai Straits and finishes at Caernarfon Castle.
During the race runners can enjoy great views across the Menai Strait to Anglesey with the Llyn Peninsular and the Eifl Mountain Range in the distance.
Lisa Cleary was the first Penarth runner home as she finished in 43.19.
Andrea Hurman was next with 45.32.
Yvonne Williams, who ran the Roman Run the day before, finished in 51.24.
Debbie Williams, making her comeback to competitive racing, finished in 60.43.
Penarth and Dinas Runners meet every Monday evening at Penarth Leisure Centre at 7pm.
