Watkins hat-trick in league win

ST ATHAN 1,
CADOXTON BARRY 7
IN Saturday's Vale Soccer League clash, Cadoxton Barry pressed from the outset but wasted chances with wayward final balls.
Eventually someone had to score and it looked as though Watkins was going to be that man as he stepped up to take a penalty following a push in the box on Fiddler. But it wasn't to be as, what could only be described at best as a modest attempt, was well saved.
And so the one-way traffic in the First Division match continued with no success until Hopkins finished a quality move from 10 yards. And two minutes later Watkins helped to make the half-time score more reflective of CB's dominance when he stretched to score from close in. Immediately St Athan broke down the right to force Warner into a quality save.
Early in the second half a Walsh back pass was intercepted before the forward finished with a high ball.
This lifted the hosts who, for a spell, took the game to CB. For all their territorial advantage, CB's one-goal lead looked a little slender.
With Hopkins having less barely an hour to catch a plane and Curran sustaining a groin injury, CB used their three substitutes in rapid succession. And, although the change in fortunes was not immediate, it eventually told as a pinpoint long range ball from Ashton found Scott Collins who passed inside for Fiddler to finish.
Watkins added his second shortly after and, with CB once more in control. a cross from the left found Coles who had time to pick his spot.
Two minutes later Watkins completed his hat-trick with the best of the three, and Bjegovic completed the rout.
What better way could there be of clearing the memories of conceding seven goals - as against Sully 2nds - than to score seven yourselves in the following game?
