Campbells capture top prize

THE remarkable run of fine weather continued as Wenvoe Castle Golf Club hosted their mixed open day which attracted over 100 entries.
The four ball better ball format traditionally provides an exciting and close finish and the top four places were separated by just a single point.
Local knowledge proved invaluable, particularly on the splendid greens, as the top places were filled by Wenvoe Castle players, with an excellent winning score of 46 points being posted by Rob and Lynda Campbell.
The next three places, all on 45 points, had to be separated on count back. Second place eventually went to Gordon and Sue MacPherson ahead of Brian and Judy Green and Simon Gatheridge and Nikky Sims.
The prize for ‘nearest the pin’ on the second hole went to David Mills, of Llandrindod Wells.
The big hitters had to wait until the 18th hole for the ‘longest drive’ and, in the end, Rob Hathway, of Dinas Powys, and Lyn Williams, of Wenvoe Castle, took the men’s and ladies' prizes respectively.
Presenting the prizes, club captain Barrie Jones thanked the green staff for their excellent course presentation, the ladies' section for the administration on a busy day and the catering and bar staff.
