BARRY Town United advanced to the Second Qualifying Round of the Welsh Cup on Saturday, with an 8-0 win over Treforest at a wet Jenner Park.
With focus now firmly on the football, Barry forward Jordan Cotterill open the scoring with an emphatic finish.
It would be mere moments before winger Michael Hartley's inquisitive cross also ended up in the back of the Treforest net.
The visitors had equipped themselves well in first half hour, staying organised and competing for every ball.
However, Barry Town United's fitness soon began to tell, and the men in yellow stretched their opponents as the match progressed.
A clinical finish from striker TJ Nagi gave the home side a 3-0 half-time lead.
This though would appear to be the calm before the storm, as the Barry side went on a second-half rampage.
Nagi doubled his tally after the restart and would later complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot.
Midfielder Troy Greening then made it 6-0 with the goal of the match, a spectacular curling effort from distance that rattled in off the woodwork.
Cotterill was far from finished, and returned to the scoresheet moments later to cap an impressive display.
It was then left to 16-year old Brad O'Loughlin, making his competitive debut, to conclude proceedings
O'Loughlin, on as a second half substitute, finished coolly to score Barry's 8th in stoppage time.
Treforest, to their credit, fought until the end, their goalkeeper making a handful of impressive saves.
However, they ultimately could not contain a rampant Barry side, who kicked off the 2013-14 season with an exciting and effective display.
Barry Town United will now travel to play AFC Rumney Juniors in the Second Qualifying Round on Saturday 14th September, after Rumney upset Tonyrefail 3-2 at the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Barry Town United U19s prepared for their entry into Youth Division East with a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of Aberdare Town.
