THE Barry YMCA Gymnastics Club had a busy weekend when 27 members competed over two events. There was a large contingent from the club competing in the Welsh Novice Tumbling Championships and, at the highest level - Level 4 - Catrin Long, Chloe Sullivan, Ellice Stockford and Seren Mirza Davies competed in the 13 years plus category where they were victorious in the team event.

Chloe Sullivan also experienced success in the individual event placing third overall. She was closely followed by Catrin in fourth, Seren (fifth) and Ellice (seventh). Chloe Gabb and Kelsey Cross made the step up to Level 4 this year in the 11/12 years category and both put in good performances. Sophia Foscolo demonstrated tremendous composure in the Level 3 eight years category. This was her first tumble competition and she performed a number of new skills to claim the gold medal.

Clubmate Caitlin Meadows experienced similar success in the Level 3 nine/10 years category, claiming the bronze medal, with Erin Gamble (fourth) and Evie Wong (seventh). Zoe Arnold competed in the Level 3 11/12 years category placing a credible fifth. Bria Karim, Jasmin Weston, Laila-Jade Lang and Seren Williams climbed on to the podium in the Level 2 nine/10 years category, claiming the bronze medal in the team event, with Bria seventh overall.

Celyn Powell was competing for the first time in this competition in the Level 2 eight years competition and performed some beautiful work, showing confidence in her work and producing very tidy skills. Shannay Jenkins also competed with confidence in the Level 2 13 plus age group.

There was further success for Barry gymnasts in the Level 1 nine/10 years category when Emily Doogue, Ruby Karim, Gwenno Davies and Keegan Mills claimed bronze in the team event, with Emily eighth overall. Clubmate Grace Dyer also performed well in this age group. Cerys Jones, Katie Fletcher, Kimi Wong and Tamzin Williams all competed for the first time in the Level 1 eight years competition and the club were very proud of their performances.

On the same weekend, 10-year-old Lara Watkins represented the club in an invitational competition held in Cardiff where she had to perform routines on all four pieces of apparatus and a range and conditioning routine. Laura performed confidently during the event and gained a third place ribbon on vault. Congratulations to all gymnasts who represented the club.
