Vale Reds Disability Football Club triumph at Skewen
12:20pm Friday 8th March 2013 in Sport
SPRING arrived early for the Vale Reds Disability Football Club when they triumphed at a Pan Disability Football Festival at Skewen, Neath, on March 3.
The club was invited by Bridgend Herons, of the West Wales League, in a tournament containing 10 teams.
The Vale Reds got off to a good start in the Over 16 Championship with a 5-0 win over Swansea City Bravehearts and this continued for the next three matches, with a 2-1 win over Swansea City VIPs, including a goal straight from a corner, a 6-0 win against Cleddau Warriors, with a hat-trick from captain Nic Latham, and a 3-0 win over Neath Port Talbot Dragons, with goals from Lewis Overton.
The Reds then met RCT Tigers from the South East Pan Disability League that they usually play in. Both teams know each other well and the game was very tight until Anthony Bratcher broke through to score in the first half. The second half was also very tight, with both teams having good chances before Anthony scored his second to give the Reds a 2-0 lead. A late goal from the Tigers a minute from full time was not enough and the Reds held on at 2-1.
The coaches would like to thank the players for the all their hard work in training which really paid off at the festival. The club trains at Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg on a Wednesday night from 7 to 9pm.
If you have a disability, the Vale Reds are holding an open evening on Wednesday, March 20, from 7 to 9pm at Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg; please come along to this free taster session.
