Barry Saints strut to emphatic victory
3:13pm Saturday 23rd February 2013 in Sport
BARRY SAINTS were back in action on Sunday with a home game against Pontcanna Rangers.
With the Saints going a goal down in the first minute through poor defending from a corner, this motivated them not to concede again. With strong play from the midfield.
the three at the back looked solid and the Saints got a goal back when great work from the middle allowed top scorer Joey to make it 1-1. Beginning to dominate, the Saints scored again to go 2-1 up at the break.
Long was forced to make a change, with Berto receiving a yellow for a very strong challenge and Nicky leaving for his spa day; on came Dez and Josh. And, straight away, Dez walked through four players to put the ball on a plate for Evo to score. With Zac and Sion running the show, Joey and Shane kept the Pontcanna defence on their toes. Captain Olli and Aimar had a solid game at the back, and Saints brought on Ben to help the midfield going forward. Man of the match Sion impressed again.
Saints soon grabbed their fourth and closed out the game. This was one of the Saints’ master classes of the season with great ball and footwork; they didn’t give the away team a chance.
Next week the Saints hope to complete the double when they entertain Canton who are at the top of the table.
Long would like to thank the team for their hard work and commitment.
Saints: Long, Basher, Olli, Aimar, Nicky, Evo, J Cummings, Zak, Berto, Sion, Joey, Shane, Dez, J Griff, Ben and Phill.
