AFTER A frustrating series of postponed matches, Sully Sports were back in South Wales Senior Soccer League action at Swanbridge and romped to this First Division victory.

Though heavy and slippery, the pitch held up well and, with the visitors under some pressure from the start, Sully tested the visiting defence at will.

The first Sully goal came as the result of a good cross, and Gareth Hemmens’ looped header did the trick. The second soon followed as Alex Long finished well into the corner of the net.

The only goal of the game for the visitors came when they cleared a long hopeful ball which took a wicked bounce to deceive already committed goalkeeper Kieron Sharratt who was unable to adjust.

Liam Beddard, Garon Davies and Paul Light were running the midfield for Sully and further pressure told after a fine move, with Nathan Blackie finishing perfectly in the corner.

No wind at Sully as “usual” meant no real advantage but it was the home side who were first out of the blocks in the second half, with Gavin Beddard hooking the ball past the keeper after a scramble from a corner.

Fochriw were unable to stem the tide and Beddard, again from a corner, was first to a loose ball to volley home. The next goal also followed a corner, with Hemmens beating the keeper with a good header.

The Sully defence was under little pressure and able to push forward, and another very good move saw Nathan Blackie pick his spot for the seventh.

Hemmens completed his hat-trick as manager Jim Blackie rang the changes with an even pacier attack.

Davies scored the game’s best goal after great work by sub Ryan Warden and it was left to Long to complete Fochriw’s miserable day at Swanbridge by slotting in number ten for an excellent Sully win.

As fate has it, the teams meet again next Saturday at Pontlottyn for the third time in four weeks.

Complacency should be put aside as three points are a must. The team will leave at noon from Lidl for the trip to the Rhymney Valley.

The seconds hope to return to action when they visit the Barry Sports Centre.
