Young boxers perform well on amateur debuts
10:40am Thursday 1st November 2012 in Sport
BARRY East End Gym boxers Ryan Adkins, 13, and Spencer Price, 18, made their amateur debuts at a recent show in Brecon.
Adkins took on Ellis Ambling (Splott Adventure ABC), with both boxers giving their all from start to finish and the former landing with the cleaner shots in the first round. Ambling came back strongly in round two, forcing Adkins to take a standing eight count, but all credit to the Barry boy, this only made him more determined and he pushed his opponent back. Continuing to land the cleaner shots, Adkins enjoyed a unanimous points decison. Price was up against Aaron Gimes (Brecon ABC) and, in a close contest, took the fight to his opponent, giving it his all. But, with the crowd behind the local boxer, Gimes came back into the fight and caught Price with the cleaner shots to record a points win. Coaches Alan and Leon Lamb were well pleased with their boxers, saying: "They did us both proud."
The club will be hosting an evening of amatuer boxing on November 27 at the Barry Island Sports Club. Anyone interested in supporting the club by sponsoring a bout should contact Alan on 07787256343.
