Museum of the people

REGARDING the town councillors’ call for a museum: I am certain that Cllr Hodges has thought this out and is keen to see it through.

A museum for Barry is a must and should be discussed both by the citizens and within council.

I respect his vision and would back him to do all possible. Possibly local groups could discuss all and report back – The Barry Men’s Forum comes to mind, among others, if they would oblige.

Historians, historical groups and all organisations are asked to give this some thought.

Please do not see money as the first stumbling block – identify the requirement, benefits, etc, and the practicalities can come later. Let’s get something back from the EEC and any grants, etc.

I am certain many businesses could both assist and benefit. I do not see this as a business venture or profit making and it need not come directly from the taxpayer. Yes, costs need to be covered and I would not see that coming from an entrance fee, especially for locals, but a small charge to visitors should not go amiss.

Many a family holds valuable items and many an attic has an artefact to be given or loaned. I know of much seeking a home and an airing. So no real cost in stock!

The time factor is important. We need to see something from day one, not wait ten years for fruition. I suggest temporary venues and almost immediately.

Charity shops manage and we have enough empty premises.

With all assistance from Barrians, this could begin very quickly. Please, give the concept lots of thought and lots of support.

Barrians paid for and built the Memo. You are called on again to help in putting something back into the town you reside in, and this will benefit all including yourselves.

Who knows, your help now could provide a museum/visitor centre for our future generations.

I am not even asking for money, just for every citizen to at least give the concept due thought, consider all and remember, then pass on all comments and ideas and offers of assistance to Cllr Hodges at Barry Town Council.
