EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of October 18, 1962:

* Three hundred claims for repairs to televisions sets damaged by Sunday’s electrical power surge had been received by the South Wales Electricity Board at Barry within 12 hours of announcing they would give "sympathetic and expeditious" consideration to such claims.

* Paul Grist, grandson of the late D J Thomas, conductor of the Barry Male Voice Choir, scored a big hit on Monday night in the comedy, "Come Blow Your Horn," at the Prince of Wales Theatre, London. Dinas Powis born Grist took his chance wonderfully well and was delighted after the show when his parents were surprise visitors to his dressing room.

* Nine-year-old Rosalind Page, of St Paul’s Avenue, Barry, came second in the Princess of the Year competition at the Little Canada holiday camp on the Isle of Wight. Rosalind won her heat in June.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of October 15, 1987:

* They came, looked, and liked what they saw, and within minutes scores of Barry shoppers were happily queuing to sample the delights of Holton Road’s latest shopping attraction, the Iceland Frozen Food store, which opened for business last Thursday.

* Police and firemen were still investigating the cause of a mystery blaze which gutted the gymnasium and changing rooms at the St Richard Gwyn Roman Catholic School at Coldbrook Road, Barry, in the early hours of Tuesday.

* Paul Phipps, Suzanne Vincent, Hayley Hawkesford and Allan Perkins, four employees of the Department of Health and Social Security (pensions and short-term benefits section) at Kendrick Road, Barry, recently came tops in a NALGO-organised pop quiz, which attracted 16 teams.
