EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of July 26, 1962:

* The opening of Cambrian Airways’ new £50,00 integrated engineering and administrative headquarters at Rhoose Airport is an indication of the airline’s expanding business, and a leap forward for the oldest independent airline in the United Kingdom.

* A local man, who left Barry in 1922 for Stoke-on-Trent where he played a large part in the development of the city, retired recently. Edgar W Savours, son of Mr and Mrs D W Savours, was born at Fontygary Farm, Rhoose and educated at Romilly Road School and Barry Grammar School.

* The suspension of loans to house purchasers by some local authorities – including Barry – was described as "inexplicable" by Raymond Gower, MP for Barry, last week.

 EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of July 23, 1987:

* A call for immediate action to stop dust-pollution on parts of western Barry has been backed by some Vale councillors. But a council chief officer has warned it might be difficult to prove a breach of the law in such cases.

* Expansion plans by chemical giants BP near their Sully Moors Road complex have upset a number of residents and blighted at least one man’s dream of spending a peaceful retirement in a greenfield setting.

* A young Barry man has been presented with £500 in travel vouchers and a trophy after winning his firm’s driver of the year competition. Mark Williams, 25, of Woodham Park, is employed in the buying department of Cardiff Rod Mill, part of Allied Steel and Wire Ltd.
