EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of January 11, 1962:

* A good deal of local comment has been sparked off by the suggestion of a self-employed Kent management consultant, who has independently been investigating the major ports of Britain to develop one "Port of Wales", which apparently, does not include Barry Docks.

* The Tottenham Hotspur team, which opposes Cardiff City at Ninian Park on Saturday, will stay at the Hotel Waters Edge, The Knap, Barry. They will spend Friday night there, and leave for Ninian Park after lunch.

* At the annual dinner of the South Wales and Monmouthsire Horse Show held in Cardiff on Saturday, Colin Harvey, of Port Road, Barry, was presented with a challenge cup for the best saddle horse under 15.2 hands ridden by a person under 21.

* The breathtaking vision of a giant American-style shopping complex, more than ten times bigger than Tesco's Gunsite superstore, designed to revitalise the whole of Barry, has been put before the Vale Council planners by Associated British Ports.

* Allegations that "wholly inaccurate" information regarding South Glamorgan County Council's contribution towards the cost of providing Christmas lights in the Vale has been given by a Conservative councillor have been made by Vale Labour group leader Cllr John Smith.

* Paul Stuart and his brother Mark of Hinchsliff Avenue, Colcot, were the lucky recipients of Red Riding Hood and Pinocchio comic books, pens and badges after their "Jim'll Fix It" type tour of Barry Police Station, which was arranged by their local community policeman PC John Kirkpatrick.
